Our story

It all started with the microbiome.

"WHAT IS THE MICROBIOME?" we hEar you say.

A brief science lesson (we promise your skin will thank us for it): The microbiome is the name for all good bacteria and microorganisms that live in harmony on and in your body. They are an extension of our selves; they play a protective role and are an integral part of the barrier function of our skin.

Too often, these good bacteria are damaged by modern lifestyles, pollution and overuse of antibacterial products and detergents. This can lead to dry, irritated and stressed skin. Sound familiar?

So we got to thinking: how good would it be if the products we use on our skin could take care of our microbiome, to help nourish the skin back to health? And that’s why we created Gallinée!

Using our scientific expertise, we got busy producing an incredible patented complex of prebiotics, probiotics and lactic acid to help nourish and support our skin’s good bacteria. We honed formulations that were bursting with high concentrations of active ingredients that respected skin’s sensitivity. This naturally meant that our products needed to have the same pH as the skin and therefore ingredients such as SLS or soap were off the list.

We always kept you – the modern, busy, urban woman who wants to make the healthiest choices – in mind, ensuring our products provide real results for those of you looking for brighter, softer and healthier skin.

And now here we are, proudly presenting Gallinée as the first brand to take care of your skin and its bacterial ecosystem, the microbiome. Isn’t science amazing?

Marie Drago

Marie Drago is a French Doctor in Pharmacy and a member of the French Society of Cosmetic Science, with over 15 years’ experience working for successful and innovative skincare brands.

After discovering how a prebiotic and probiotic diet could improve the symptoms of the gluten intolerance that had been plaguing her life for years, Marie got a Eureka moment: What if we applied the same science to skin?

Marie’s thesis on the microbiome and the enormous benefits of harnessing helpful bacteria gave her the vision and the know-how to create Gallinée’s formulations.

Thanks to her pharmacy background and her beauty experience, Marie designed formulas like no other, and patented the triple biotic complex that you can now find in Gallinée’s products.

Triple biotic complex:  A high concentration of our patented mix of prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics helps to support your microbiome in the most gentle and effective way possible.

Physiological pH: Your skin is naturally acidic, at a pH from 4.5 to 5.5. Alkaline soaps and cosmetic products disrupt this natural protection, affecting your skin and your microbiome. Therefore it is imperative to us that all Gallinée products have a pH akin to the human body.

Natural ingredients at active levels: Brightening daisy extract in our hand cream, kaolin clay in our face mask, anti-oxidant myrtle in our hydrating face cream… Our products are packed with active ingredients at levels where they really make a difference.

Unnecessary Packaging: You won’t find boxes around most of our products, as we don’t think it’s the best use of your money, nor is it great for the environment to have cardboard that you chuck away as soon as you buy the product. The only exception is our face cream, as we needed more space to list our very numerous active ingredients.

Parabens, Phenoxyethanol & Methylisothiazolinone (MI): We use safer preservatives at the lowest possible level.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS):SLS is a known irritant and is extremely damaging for your microbiome, so you won’t find it in Gallinée products.

Mineral oils & silicons: Often used in beauty products to give a silky feel or to moisturise the skin by trapping in water, we prefer to avoid mineral oils and silicones because of their plasticky feeling, the possible build-up and clogging of skin.

Colorants: We don’t add unnecessary ingredients to colour our creams – we think the colour produced naturally by the ingredients is beautiful in its own right.
